CIVIC FUNERALS
When the deceased is not a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark the last Farewell will be a civic funeral or cremation – a beautiful ceremony that can be held in the home of the deceased, in a chapel close to the church or at a site with a special importance to the deceased.
Some pastors will offer a church ceremony in consideration of the relatives but as a rule the ceremony will be without participation of a pastor – and as a an examined funeral director I am, therefore, trained for this.
As in connection with church funerals/interments I can for a civic ceremony help you make arrangements with all involved parties, filling in documents and certificates for public authorities and registration of the death with insurance company and trade union – and guide you if applying for economical support for the funeral services.
Please do also read through “The Tasks of a Funeral Director” as the differences between a church and a civic ceremony are in many ways minor.
